In the sport of disc golf, anything can happen.
That was certainly the case at the 2022 Disc Golf World Championship, where currently Aaron Gossage, who went undrafted in the Fantasy Disc Golf World Championship, is tied for first place. Ezra Aderhold, Jeremy Koling, and Brodie Smith are all currently in the top 20 after the first round of the tournament. All of these players have something in common: they went undrafted in Fantasy Disc Golf and are feeling disrespected because of it. They are using that disrespect as motivation to prove all the doubters wrong. And they are all poised to make a run at the World Championship title.
So far, Gossage has been the talk of the tournament. His underdog story is inspiring, and his play has been incredible. He's been hitting shots that very few people can hit, and he's doing it with a smile on his face. "I'm ranked 18th in DGPT standings," said Gossage, "and these clowns drafted 10 players ranked lower than me." Not only is he ranked 18th in the standings, he is also a 1027 rated player.
You can't help but root for a guy like Aaron Gossage. He's the embodiment of what the sport of disc golf is all about. Aderhold, Koling, and Smith are all incredible athletes who are having success at the World Championship. It's going to be a great rest of the tournament, and these unheralded (and undrafted) players are sure to make it even more exciting.
